Solana Unveils “O Rí Mi” Ahead of Debut EP Girl From The West

Lagos-born artist Solana continues shaping her own sound with “O Rí Mi,” a new single introducing listeners to the world of Yoru-Pop ahead of her debut EP, arriving 6 November.

African music continues to make room for artists who embrace their roots while experimenting with new sounds, and Solana is finding her place in that movement. The Nigerian singer, songwriter and multidisciplinary creative has released “O Rí Mi,” offering another glimpse into her distinctive blend of Yoruba influences, synth-pop and R&B.

The single arrives alongside the announcement of her debut EP, Girl From The West, a project that promises a more personal look into her creative identity and the world she is building through music.

Introducing Solana’s Yoru-Pop Sound

Born and raised in Lagos, Solana brings her Yoruba heritage into a sound that moves between bright electronic textures, infectious rhythms and contemporary R&B. She describes this musical blend as Yoru-Pop, a style that allows her to explore different influences without losing the cultural identity at the centre of her artistry.

With “O Rí Mi,” she continues developing that sound while giving listeners a taste of the personality and perspective behind her music. The release sets the stage for Girl From The West, which she describes as a deeply personal body of work.

Her approach reflects an artist interested in more than creating catchy records. Through her music, Solana explores the tension between light and darkness, drawing on contrasting emotions and experiences to shape her storytelling.

From “OkunKun” to a Bigger Audience

Solana’s growing momentum follows the release of “OkunKun” earlier this year. The single surpassed one million streams and became the soundtrack to more than 12,000 TikTok videos, helping her music reach audiences organically.

The track also attracted recognition from international artists including SZA, Little Simz, Mr Eazi and Tyla, bringing further attention to her emerging sound.

That growing visibility provides an exciting backdrop for “O Rí Mi” and the upcoming EP. Rather than abandoning the identity that introduced her to new listeners, Solana continues to build on her connection to Yoruba culture while exploring the possibilities of modern African pop.

A Debut EP Rooted in Identity

Arriving on 6 November, Girl From The West represents an important step in Solana’s journey. The project offers an intimate window into how she sees the world, processes her experiences and expresses herself creatively.

Drawing inspiration from artists such as Rihanna, Doechii, Asake and King Sunny Adé, Solana brings together a range of influences while working towards a sound that feels distinctly her own.

Her selection as a Spotify EQUAL Africa Ambassador further highlights her growing presence within the continent’s emerging music scene.

With “O Rí Mi” now available, Solana is introducing listeners to the next stage of her artistic journey. As anticipation builds for Girl From The West, she is making a case for a version of African pop where cultural pride, individuality and experimentation can exist together.

“O Rí Mi” is out now, with Solana’s debut EP, Girl From The West, arriving on 6 November.
