The concept was born in 2016 as an intimate concert headlined by Shelton Forbez, alongside a handful of up and coming artists. The idea was simple but intentional: build a “New Sound,” a space where fresh African talent could be heard in a setting far more personal than a typical show.

The live sessions ran until 2020, when lockdown forced a rethink of how the experience could continue. Rather than pausing entirely, the team pivoted to an online concert hosted at the Joburg Theatre, which became Season 1 of New Melody Sessions. That season introduced audiences to artists including Maglera Doe Boi, KLY, Money Baddoo and Manu WorldStar, among others.

Cape Town’s Turn

Now in Season 2, the platform has found a new home in Cape Town, bringing artists like Kila G, T!MBO and Jordan Baker into its orbit. Each session continues the same mission that started it all: creating a place where African artists can connect directly with audiences, unfiltered and up close.
